In a TIME interview, Trump said "certain levels of inflation will also pay off that debt very rapidly"—twice, for emphasis—when pressed on the $11T added to the debt under him. No policy or target given; he also credited growth and blasted the Fed's rate hikes. The catch: inflation erodes old debt's value but raises future borrowing costs.

Samsung has raised prices by $100 across most of its Galaxy S26 lineup (with the 1TB Ultra up $200), citing a persistent memory chip shortage—joining Apple and Google in passing component costs to consumers. Notably, Samsung's own semiconductor division, which supplies the DRAM driving the shortage, posted 94% of company profit in Q1 even as its mobile division's profit fell 38%, with RAM prices having risen sixfold over the past year.

The EU is drafting its “Kids Act”, a broad plan to limit access for those under 15 to social media, video-sharing sites, AI chatbots, and online games. Under the proposal, children under 3 would have no access, ages 3–12 would use parent-controlled child-friendly accounts, and 13–14 year-olds could use limited, supervised accounts with strict time limits. Full independent use would begin at age 15. Companies would need to remove addictive features and add tools for reporting harmful content. This remains a proposal, as EU countries and Parliament must approve it before it becomes law.

OpenAI has released GPT-6 Astra, a flagship model designed for business tasks — it leads in computer use, browsing, coding, cybersecurity, and science, and can run through common apps without an API. Early partners such as Cognition, Databricks, Hebbia, Box, and Figma report notable gains in code review, deck creation, and financial analysis, while OpenAI notes it is trained for greater output with fewer tokens and retries (pricing begins at $10/$50 per million input/output tokens). It is their most aligned model so far, showing fewer unintended actions on safety tests, yet it is the first to reach OpenAI’s “Critical” cybersecurity level, so stricter safeguards accompany it. It is available now in ChatGPT Work, Codex, and the API.
