David Ellison Reveals: Combined Paramount–Warner Bros. Will Be Called Skydance
Paramount Skydance $PSKY CEO David Ellison announced Friday that once the $110 billion Paramount–Warner Bros. Discovery merger closes — expected October 6 — the combined corporate entity will be named Skydance, taking the name of the film studio Ellison founded in 2006. Paramount and Warner Bros. will keep their own distinct brand identities underneath the Skydance umbrella, alongside other properties like DC, HBO Max, Nickelodeon, CBS, Paramount+, and CNN.
In his statement, Ellison said the goal was to give the combined company "an identity of its own" without letting a new corporate name "diminish, alter or overshadow" either legacy studio. The announcement included a video montage spanning both companies' film and TV history. To get the deal across the line, Ellison has also committed to releasing at least 30 films theatrically in 2027–2028 (rising to 32 in 2029–2031), with 45-day exclusive theatrical windows and a 90-day gap before streaming premieres.
