NVIDIA $NVDA Announces Record $150 Billion Share Buyback
NVIDIA announced an additional $150 billion share repurchase authorization — the largest in US stock market history, surpassing Apple's previous record of $110 billion set in 2024. Combined with its earlier authorization, NVIDIA's total buyback plan now stands at $235 billion, which the company expects to complete by fiscal year 2028.
Buybacks reduce a company's share count, boosting returns per remaining share (and often the stock price), while giving the company another way to return value to shareholders. They can also signal management's view that the stock still has room to run, since the company is willing to deploy cash to buy it.
CEO Jensen Huang said AI-driven growth has given NVIDIA enough cash flow to keep investing heavily in new technology while still returning capital to shareholders.
