Microsoft $MSFT Launches Surface Laptop Ultra, Powered by NVIDIA RTX Spark, Starting at $2,599
Microsoft officially launched the Surface Laptop Ultra, after first teasing it back in June, billing it as the most powerful Surface device ever made. Like similar laptops from other brands, it runs on NVIDIA's RTX Spark chip (Grace + Blackwell architecture) with up to 128GB of unified memory.
New additions include a redesigned cooling system Microsoft says handles 2.5x more heat than other Surface models despite a body just 18mm thick, a brighter PixelSense Ultra display with the highest HDR brightness of any laptop currently on the market — reportedly 25% brighter than the MacBook Pro M5 — and the industry's first magnetic USB-C port, called Magnetic Connect.
Microsoft is positioning it toward users who want to run AI locally — programmers, engineers, and creatives — while still supporting both the Windows and CUDA ecosystems. The company also updated Windows with a new "Hybrid Intelligence" feature, letting local and cloud-based AI models hand off work between each other more seamlessly.
It starts at $2,599, going on sale October 16, with a launch promotion offering up to $1,000 off for customers trading in a MacBook Pro.
